Your 2020 guide to Christmas lights in London

You asked, and I have delivered 😆

As I’m sure you are all aware by now, Christmas is our absolute favourite time of the year! Christmas in London is always so magical because of the beautiful lights. In this post, you’ll be able to see my walking guide. At the end of the post, I’ll also post some links to Christmas lights bus tours that you can hopefully check out in December.

What you will need on your walking tour.

– A phone that has a map and data 😆

– WARM clothes! I’m talking hat scarf and gloves. You’ll pass by two huge Primarks if you forget!

– A power bank.

– A scooter/buggy for the kids. It’s not an easy walk. I wouldn’t recommend a bike.

Marble Arch.

I would recommend starting your walking lights tour at Marble Arch station.

Below you can see a picture of the lights you’ll see on Oxford street. They’re beautiful, and you’ll see the names of those who have been nominated as heroes during this pandemic.

While I love these lights, they are pretty much the same from Marble Arch all the way down to Tottenham Court Road so you can either turn down New Bond Street or Regent Street. The great thing about this area is that it’s all pretty much connected so you could potentially do this all in one night.

New Bond Street

You’ll know you’re close to New Bond Street when you see the Disney Store! It’s about a 20-minute walk from Marble Arch.

The lights here are so beautiful. It’s one straight road, and if you walk all the way down you’ll end up at Fortnum and Mason, and you’ll also be able to see the beautiful Piccadilly angels.

Before that though make sure you check out the stores on this street as the lights are stunning.

Cartier is impressive, and Tiffany’s is lovely too! Make sure you check out Burlington Arcade because it’s so sweet and festive with many insta worthy spots including the super cute Moët & Chandon swing (middle picture)

So as mentioned above, you can make your way from New Bond Street to Fortnum and Mason quickly.

From Cartier is a simple 6-minute walk! Fortnum and Mason have a beautiful setup!

On that same street, you’ll see the most beautiful angel lights!

From here you can walk to Leicester Square to see the lights there. This walk is roughly 10 minutes.

From Leicester Square I would suggest heading to Covent Garden to check out the giant Christmas tree, The London transport museum tree and all the little lights dotted around. It’s so lovely there!

This walk is around 10 minutes.

Regent Street

I briefly mentioned Regent street above. You can get there quickly from Oxford street. Or you could walk there from Covent Garden, which is about 25 minutes.

Regent Street is home to some stunning angel lights. I honestly feel like you could have a bad day, walk down Regent Street and instantly feel better. Carnaby Street is close by, and you can check out their lights too. They’re not my favourite, but it’s worth a visit!

EDITED 28th November 2020

If you walk down South Molton Street you can see these beautiful lights. South Molton street is very easy to find. If you come out of the main part of Bond Street station you just need to turn left!

There are some more gorgeous lights at Merchant Square Paddington!

You can find this beautiful installation by Tower Bridge! Make sure you check out The Shard too. The lights are lovely 😍

EDITED 4th December 2020

Kings Road is another location you’re going to want to check out for some lovely festive lights and photo opps.

Places to check out:

The Ivy Chelsea Garden.

Duke of York Square.

So as mention above you should hopefully be able to do Christmas lights bus tours from December. There are taxi tours too. Here are a few I know of:

The Original Tour

Golden Tours

B – Bakery

Capital Taxi tours

Instagram and Facebook are good places to search for black taxi tours too! Make sure you check out Wowcher and Groupon for discounted tours!

And lastly, I also have an Instagram highlight of our Christmas lights tour with more pictures, including some from Kings Road too. Make sure you check it out and do tag us in your social posts if you visit 😉
