If you’re looking for a hands on science activity for kids in London, Mini Genius Lab is a fun, interactive experience that combines slime making, bubble experiments and dry ice demonstrations in a one hour workshop. We recently visited with my 10 year old daughter, and while she genuinely had a great time, I came away feeling like there’s room to make the experience even better for older children.

What is Mini Genius Lab?
Mini Genius Lab is an interactive science workshop held at the Gamepath Monopoly Basement near Tottenham Court Road. Led by an energetic “mad scientist”, children take part in a variety of hands on experiments, audience participation and science themed activities that are designed to be fun as well as educational.
The experience lasts around 60 minutes and is recommended for children aged 6+, although younger children are welcome with adult supervision.

Our Experience
The first thing my daughter loved was being given a mini lab coat to wear. It’s a lovely touch that immediately helps children feel like little scientists. You don’t get to keep the lab coat, but it definitely adds to the excitement.
Throughout the session, children make slime to take home, experiment with giant bubbles, watch dry ice create clouds of fog and fizz, and take part in a few interactive activities led by the presenter. The host was full of energy and kept everyone engaged from beginning to end.
My 10 year old genuinely enjoyed herself. She laughed throughout the session, happily joined in with every activity and came away saying she’d had fun.

What We Loved
• The presenter was enthusiastic and brilliant with the children.
• The dry ice experiments created some great wow moments.
• Children get to make slime to take home.
• The mini lab coats make the experience feel more immersive.
• Everything is hands on, so children are constantly involved rather than simply watching.
What Could Be Better?
Although my daughter enjoyed herself, I couldn’t help feeling that many of the activities were aimed at younger children.
Slime is always popular, but it’s something many children have already made lots of times. The bubble experiments were fun too, but again they felt better suited to younger age groups.
Personally, I think it would work really well if there were separate sessions for different ages. Perhaps one workshop aimed at younger children and another for ages 10+ with slightly more challenging experiments and a bit more science behind what they’re doing.
There was also a balloon activity which was enjoyable, but I’d love to see the activities changed from time to time so families who return get a different experience.
The only other thing I noticed was that the room felt a little cramped. It would have been nice to have a bit more space between families so everyone had a little more room to enjoy the activities comfortably.
Is Mini Genius Lab Worth It?
Yes, especially if you have younger children.
For me, the ideal age range is probably around 5 to 8 years old. That said, my 10 year old still had a genuinely good time and enjoyed every part of the experience. I just think children her age would benefit from slightly more advanced experiments and challenges.
I really like the overall concept. It’s something different to do in London, encourages children to get involved and creates some lovely family memories. With a few small tweaks for older children, I think it could be even better.
Final Verdict
Mini Genius Lab is a fun, interactive family activity in London that’s perfect for children who love getting hands on. The enthusiastic presenter, slime making, bubbles and dry ice demonstrations make for an entertaining hour, and my daughter genuinely enjoyed herself.
If you’re visiting with younger children, I think you’ll get the most out of the experience. If you’re going with older children, just go in expecting a fun interactive workshop rather than a more advanced science class.
