If you thought the Ramses and the Pharaohs’ Gold exhibition was just for adults, think again. The brand new Horrible Histories live tour has completely transformed the experience for families, making ancient Egypt much more entertaining for children.
I visited the Ramses exhibition a couple of months ago with my 10 year old daughter. While she found the artefacts interesting, I couldn’t help thinking that children need something a little more engaging when they’re learning about history. This new Horrible Histories experience does exactly that.
Our Review of the Horrible Histories Live Tour
From the moment the tour begins, it’s packed with the classic Horrible Histories humour that so many children already know and love.
Instead of simply walking around the exhibition reading information boards, you’ll be guided through the galleries by Ramses himself while learning about ancient Egypt in a way that’s genuinely funny.
There were plenty of laughs throughout the performance. I could hear children laughing almost constantly as they joined in with the silly dancing, reacted to the wonderfully disgusting sound effects and met a “real life” mummy. There’s even the famous Mummy Rap, which had everyone smiling.
It strikes a really nice balance between education and entertainment. Children are still learning about real Egyptian history, mummification and some incredible artefacts, but it never feels like a history lesson.
A Huge Improvement for Families
Having experienced the exhibition before the Horrible Histories takeover, I honestly think this is a huge improvement for families.
The original exhibition is fascinating, especially if you love ancient Egypt, but younger visitors may lose interest after a while. Adding the Horrible Histories tour makes everything feel much more interactive and memorable.
If your child enjoys being silly, loves gross facts or is already a fan of the Horrible Histories books or TV series, I think they’ll have a brilliant time.
