REVIEW: Bluey’s Big Play – A Magical Theatrical Experience for Fans of All Ages

If you’re a Bluey fan, young or old, there’s a treat awaiting you at the Southbank Centre until January 7th – “Bluey’s Big Play.” The charming theatre production brings the beloved animated characters to life, and it’s an experience that’s definitely worth checking out.

One distinctive feature of the show is that the characters are portrayed as puppets rather than people in costumes. The meticulous attention to detail, such as the movement of the pupils in their eyes and the expressive motion of their eyebrows, adds an extra layer of magic to the performance, allowing the audience to easily connect with the emotions of each character.

The use of pre-recorded voices by the original cast is a thoughtful touch, ensuring authenticity and avoiding the pitfalls of live performances where characters might not sound quite as expected. This is a refreshing departure from past experiences, like watching Bing live, where the actor’s portrayal sometimes fell short of capturing the essence of the annoying CBeebies character.

Without giving away any spoilers, the theatre production closely mirrors the TV series, promising a heartwarming and delightful story. The 50-minute runtime, without an interval, keeps the pace engaging and is suitable for audiences of all ages.

Our experience from the stalls, specifically row J seats 24-27, provided a perfect view of all the action, allowing us to immerse ourselves fully in the Bluey universe. They offer booster seats free of charge.

With ticket prices starting from a reasonable £14, it’s an affordable outing for families. Additionally, there’s a 25% discount available on concession tickets for recipients of Universal or Pension Credit, full-time students, and under-16s. These tickets are limited and you’ll either have to call or email to enquire. Details about concession tickets can be found here.

It’s important to note that all children over 18 months old require a ticket for the show, but those under 18 months who can sit on a parent or carer’s lap do not need one. The production also offers merchandise for purchase, providing fans with a tangible memory to take home.

At the end of the performance, you’ll have a blast participating in a game of keepy uppy.

Conveniently located near Waterloo station, accessing the Southbank Centre is easy, making it a fantastic outing for families and Bluey enthusiasts alike.

If you’re unable to catch the show at Southbank Centre, don’t worry. “Bluey’s Big Play” is set to tour other parts of the U.K., so be sure to check the lineup for upcoming dates and locations. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this heartwarming and entertaining adventure with Bluey and friends!
