Frugal Family Fun: Butlins Minehead Retreat with The Sun £9.50 Holiday Bargain

Keeping it brief, we ventured to both SKEGNESS and BOGNOR with The Sun Holidays, experiencing a similar vibe in both locations.

Our initial booking cost was a mere £38, but a later offer from Butlins allowed us to upgrade to a silver bungalow for just £5 per person. In the end, our total holiday expense amounted to £48.

Behold the charm of our silver bungalow.

The silver bungalow was both decent and tidy, meeting our expectations without any complaints.

Pro Tip: Take advantage of the nearby Tesco, Morrison’s, and Lidl, just a short walk from the site. Stock up on all your food and drinks there to save a significant amount of money!

As for things to do at Butlins Minehead?

There’s a plethora of activities ranging from live shows, fairgrounds, arcades, and swimming to beach play, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Although our visit coincided with less-than-ideal weather, we made the most of our time indoors, providing little miss with a fantastic experience. She forged numerous friendships and had an absolute blast!

Getting to Butlins Minehead

Oh, the travel woes! If you can, driving is highly recommended. I usually avoid journeys longer than 2 hours, as both little miss and I get restless. I truly wished I had driven this time. The train journey from Paddington to Taunton, approximately 2 hours, was tolerable. However, the bus from Taunton to Minehead (single ticket cost £6, by the way) turned out to be a bit of a frenzy!

To begin with, the bus couldn’t accommodate everyone and their luggage. With minimal luggage space on the bus, our bags had to occupy seats.

To add to the chaos, there was a diversion, making the bus journey longer than usual. Additionally, we traversed some narrow country roads that felt rather unsafe. At one point, the bus had to reverse through a tight space to make way for a massive oncoming lorry. Utter madness!

The return bus ride wasn’t as bad since we left early, and this bus actually had luggage space!

For those planning to take the bus, make sure to catch the number 28 bus.

Would we go again?

Chances are, I wouldn’t choose Butlins Minehead again. I believe the resort could use some updates, and the journey was a bit more of a hassle for me. While it wasn’t terrible, I still have a preference for the other two sites!
