How to get to The Nightmare Before Christmas Light Trail from London
If you are travelling from London without a car, one of the simplest routes is to take a direct Avanti West Coast train from London Euston to Warrington Bank Quay.
The fastest direct journeys take from around 1 hour 42 minutes.
From Warrington Bank Quay, you will then need to take a taxi to Arley Hall & Gardens. The venue is around 8 miles from the station, so I would recommend prebooking your taxi, particularly if you are visiting for an evening session.
If you are planning to travel there and back from London on the same day, check the last train from Warrington Bank Quay to London Euston before choosing your trail time.

What can you expect?
The Nightmare Before Christmas Light Trail takes approximately 75 minutes to complete.
The experience features iconic scenes and songs from the film alongside dazzling lights, 3D sculptures and immersive moments throughout the grounds of Arley Hall & Gardens.
All ages are welcome, although it is worth remembering that The Nightmare Before Christmas has a darker theme. Younger children who are sensitive to spooky characters, flashing lights or atmospheric music may find certain parts a little scary.
The experience also includes changes in light levels, bright colours, flashing lights and music.
Is The Nightmare Before Christmas Light Trail accessible?
The trail takes place along a natural woodland path. Although the route is described as flat, the ground can be uneven in places.
Wheelchairs are not available to borrow at the venue, so visitors who require a mobility device should bring their own.
As this is an outdoor experience taking place during autumn and winter, suitable footwear and warm clothing are also recommended.

Should you book in advance?
If you already know you want to visit, I would book your preferred date and time rather than waiting to see if a discount becomes available.
Some ticket options and sessions are already showing as sold out, particularly on popular dates.

My Honest Review of Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Light Trail at Arley Hall
We travelled all the way from London to visit Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Light Trail at Arley Hall & Gardens in Cheshire, and I have to say it really is a lovely experience, especially if you’re a big fan of the film!
However, there is one thing I really wish I’d known before visiting, and that’s just how muddy it would be!
I’m talking EXTREMELY muddy! For some reason, I was expecting the paths to be similar to the temporary flooring they put down at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park every year. I definitely wasn’t expecting quite so much mud!
That is genuinely the only negative thing I can say about the experience, although I can only blame myself for not thinking to bring wellies. It never even crossed my mind that we’d practically be fighting for our lives trying not to slip in the mud, lol!
So my biggest piece of advice would be to wear wellies or proper waterproof boots, especially if it’s been raining. Definitely don’t make the same mistake we did!
If you’re travelling from London like we did, it’s definitely possible to visit without a car. We caught a train from London Euston to Crewe and then changed trains to Warrington Bank Quay. On the way home, we managed to get a direct train from Warrington Bank Quay back to London Euston, which made the return journey much easier.
Our return train tickets cost just £48.45 in total for one adult and one child, which I thought was pretty reasonable considering the distance.
From Warrington Bank Quay, you can easily grab an Uber to Arley Hall & Gardens. However, I would strongly recommend prebooking one for the journey back because the venue really is in the middle of nowhere! The last thing you want is to finish the experience and find yourself struggling to get back to the station.
There are toilets available at the event, along with food and drink vendors, so you can grab something to eat while you’re there. As you’d probably expect, the food is on the pricey side, so that’s definitely something to factor into your budget, especially if you’re visiting as a family.
You can even roast marshmallows, which I thought was a lovely little addition to the experience and perfect for the autumn atmosphere!
There’s also a selection of The Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise available if you fancy taking home a souvenir. Items include T-shirts from £25, hoodies from £40, hats from £20, scarves from £25, keychains from £7, magnets from £6 and pin sets from £15. There are also other souvenirs, including tote bags, notebooks and light-up accessories. The merchandise isn’t particularly cheap either, so it’s worth budgeting a little extra if you know the kids will want something.

As for the actual light trail, we really enjoyed it! Seeing Jack Skellington, Sally, Zero and the world of Halloween Town brought to life through illuminated displays was such a lovely experience. It’s especially enjoyable if you’ve grown up watching the film or have children who love it just as much as you do.
Would I recommend visiting? Absolutely! I won’t pretend it’s a cheap day out, especially when you factor in tickets, travel, food and any souvenirs, but I do think it’s worth experiencing if you’re a big fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
It’s one of those experiences that feels even more special when you recognise the characters, music and little details from the film.
If you’re thinking about making the journey from London, I’d say go for it! Just plan your transport in advance, allow a little extra spending money and whatever you do, BRING YOUR WELLIES!
We certainly learnt that lesson the hard way, lol!
