If you’re looking for a London cocktail bar that feels more like an experience than just somewhere to grab drinks, The Alchemist is definitely worth adding to your list. Known for its theatrical cocktails, dramatic presentations and lively atmosphere, it’s become one of the most popular spots in London for date nights, girls nights and birthday drinks.
We recently visited the Battersea location and honestly had such a good time. Every cocktail arriving at the table felt like a mini performance with smoke, bubbles, colour changing effects and creative presentation throughout the evening. It’s one of those places where you spend as much time admiring the drinks as actually drinking them.

The Cocktails
The cocktails are definitely the main reason most people visit and it’s easy to see why. Every drink feels creative and carefully thought out with presentations that make the experience feel genuinely different from your average cocktail bar.
Some drinks were sweeter than others, while a few were definitely stronger, but overall the variety was really good and there’s something for pretty much every taste preference.
Bubblegum Cola Libre
This was probably one of the most playful cocktails we tried. Made with Appleton Signature Rum, Mouse Kingdom Blue, bubblegum, sour cola, disco grenadine, lemon, sour lolly and crackle crystals, it tasted nostalgic without being overpoweringly sweet. The presentation alone made it memorable and it definitely stands out if you enjoy fun dessert style cocktails.
Cosmic Oysters
Made with Bombay Sapphire Gin, limoncello, yuzu, citrus, disco blue and passionfruit pearls, this cocktail felt much lighter and fresher. The citrus flavours balanced really nicely with the sweetness and it looked incredibly striking when served.
Colour Changing One
Probably the most interactive cocktail of the night. Made with Ketel One Vodka, apple, soda and citrus, the drink literally changes colour as part of the experience which made it one of the most talked about cocktails at the table. Refreshing, crisp and visually impressive.
Dead Red Zombie
This was definitely one of the stronger cocktails we ordered. Made with Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum, Wray & Nephew, Grand Marnier, citrus, pineapple, cranberry and zombie mix, it had a proper tropical flavour with a noticeable kick. If you prefer stronger rum based cocktails, this is probably the one to go for.
Cosmic Conch
One of the most visually unique drinks we tried. Made with Bacardi Caribbean Spiced Rum, Planteray Pineapple Rum, orgeat, lime and Alchemy IPA with luminous sea foam, the presentation was unlike anything else on the menu. It had a more complex flavour profile compared to some of the sweeter drinks and felt a bit more grown up overall.

The Food
The food genuinely surprised us because it was far better than expected for a cocktail focused venue.
The lobster mac & cheese was absolutely fantastic and easily one of the standout dishes of the night. Made with lobster, crayfish, three cheese sauce, truffle dust, crispy panko and shallot crumb, it was rich, creamy and full of flavour without feeling overly heavy. The truffle worked really well with the seafood and the crispy topping added a nice texture throughout. My only complaint is that I honestly wish the portion had been even bigger because it disappeared very quickly.
My bestie tried the rib eye steak which came with garlic butter glaze, heritage tomato salad, Chesil Beach sea salt and fries. The steak itself was cooked really nicely and had plenty of flavour, while the garlic butter glaze gave it an extra richness without overpowering the meat.
For dessert we had the churros loaded with caramel and served alongside warm chocolate sauce. They were soft in the middle, crisp on the outside and the caramel added just enough sweetness without becoming too sickly.

Atmosphere & Overall Experience
The atmosphere is probably one of the biggest reasons people keep coming back to The Alchemist. The dark interiors, music, theatrical cocktails and busy energy make it feel exciting from the moment you walk in.
If you’re after a cocktail bar in London that combines interactive drinks, surprisingly good food and a lively atmosphere, I’d highly recommend The Alchemist.
