Beyond the Brochure: A Personal Review of Lalandia in Billund

We were invited back to Lalandia and this time we stayed! You might recall our previous trip to the Aquadome a few years ago, which was fantastic.

I hopped onto Skyscanner yet again to secure the most budget-friendly flights. I paid £75.38 for the flights through Kiwi, although I wouldn’t recommend it since retrieving my booking on the Ryanair website proved troublesome. I had to pay 59p to verify my booking because it wasn’t a direct booking with Ryanair. Despite the hassle, booking through Kiwi did save me some money compared to booking directly with Ryanair.

To save on flight costs, we traveled with hand luggage, purchased from Decathlon. Our round trip from Victoria to Stansted via National Express totaled £30.65 and took less than 2 hours. Additionally, National Express provides Flexible Travel from Stansted Airport, allowing passengers to use similar high-frequency services (A5, A6, A7, A8, A9) into London, three hours before or after the booked journey time, at no extra charge.

The flight from Stansted to Billund was a swift 1 hour and 15 minutes, impressively quick. Multiple non-EU passport control lines expedited the airport departure process. A taxi ride to Lalandia, priced at 196 DKK (around £22.94), was also quick, and I utilized Monzo for the transaction, benefiting from its fee-free service.

The taxi conveniently dropped us off at the entrance where we checked in at reception, received necessary information, and then strolled to our accommodation within approximately 10 minutes.

Our lodging featured a passcode entry, eliminating the need for keys—a practical aspect, but remember to keep the code handy. The place boasted various amenities like kitchen utensils, a microwave, washer, dryer, dishwasher, three bedrooms, a shower, and even a hot tub. We opted for Design Plus 6, perfect for accommodating 6 people, offering everything we required.

Pricing depends on your group size and visit dates. They provide diverse accommodations suitable for various party sizes and budgets. You can also consider a day visit to Lalandia, just as we did a few years ago—I’ll delve into that later.

We arrived fatigued from travel and mainly focused on settling in on our first night. We dined onsite and later visited the supermarket. Note, it gets quite dark outdoors, so bringing a torch might be helpful.

Lalandia, akin to holiday parks like Haven and Butlins, offers a more extensive array of facilities, making it notably superior. As a resident at Lalandia, you can buy a Gold Wristband in advance, granting free access to activities during your stay.
If purchased no later than 5 days before arrival, the Gold wristband costs DKK 179 per person (approximately £20). However, if obtained after arrival, the price rises to DKK 229 per person (about £35). Please note that Gold Wristbands are not available for day visitors to purchase.

On our first day at Lalandia, we kicked off with the delightful Monky Tonky Land, a sprawling indoor play area any child would adore. With slides, interactive trampolines, and numerous hideaways, it’s the ideal play haven for kids aged 0 to 12. A dedicated section for under 5s is available. For residential guests, admission is free; day visitors can enter for a fee of DKK 60 (approximately £7).

We headed to the arcade, a perennial favourite. I used my Monzo card for the arcade game coins, a convenience as I hadn’t withdrawn any cash during the entire trip. Meanwhile, Little Miss used her gohenry card for the mining activity, benefiting from the same fee-free usage abroad as the Monzo card.

We enjoyed a round of mini-golf, spanning a total of 12 holes, a delightful inclusion in the gold wristband activities. For day visitors, the mini-golf costs 45 DKK (around £5.28) for kids and 50 DKK (around £5.86) for adults.

After a meal at Lalandia, which boasts numerous restaurants and a supermarket, we returned to our accommodation, changed into swim gear, and made our way to the Aquadome, a large waterpark. This visit marked our second time at the Aquadome, and it remains an incredible tropical waterpark, offering a plethora of watery fun.

During our initial visit, we opted for a day trip. We divided our time between The LEGO House for a few hours and the Aquadome for the following couple of hours. Access to the Aquadome is complimentary for guests with gold wristbands. For day visitors, the pricing varies based on the day of the week and the season. Presently, it’s just under £40 for adults, approximately £33 for those under 12, and admission is free for children under 3.

The Aquadome stands out as the pinnacle of Lalandia. It boasts an abundance of slides, both indoor and outdoor pools, and an incredibly invigorating hot jacuzzi. You’ll also find facility includes a wave machine, an aromatherapy sauna, and various other amenities.

On the third day, it was time to check out. Although the standard check-out time was 10 am, I opted to extend our stay until 1 pm by paying 299 DKK, which equated to £35.12. It proved worthwhile as it provided us with extra time to further explore Lalandia without the hassle of managing our luggage.

To kick off the third day, we indulged in more arcade games then back to another mining session at Winter World. Winter World is an absolute must-visit. It features an ice rink, toboggan run, a ski slope, and rock climbing—a range of activities that truly make the visit worthwhile.

You can explore the complete list of available activities at Lalandia here. We even got the chance to interact with some adorable dwarf goats during our Lalandia visit. They are incredibly cute!

Lalandia is a great place to visit during any time of the year because the majority of the activities are indoors!! I can’t recommend it enough. There are plenty of activities in Billund. You’ve got the fantastic Lalandia, Legoland, The Lego House, Wow Park Billund, and even the Teddy Bear Art Museum. There’s plenty to keep you entertained for at least a week.

Leaving a fun place is always a bit bittersweet, but as they say, all good things must come to an end. If you have school-age kids, let this trip be a reminder that you can still have those fun trips abroad during term time. Booking well in advance often secures the best flight deals.

For our departure, we opted for another taxi back to the airport, a quick ride that took less than 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can catch bus 43, just one stop away. Please note, the buses accept cash only.

I’m unsure if my eyesight has worsened or if it’s a recent addition, but I spotted ‘Bill’s playground’ at Billund airport—an area for kids to play! It might be small, but I think any parent would value this. Traveling is tiring, and with kids, it’s even more so. Play areas help them expend energy, making them more relaxed for the plane journey. It was also great to find buggies available at the airport for the little ones.

I believe I’ve addressed everything, but if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Our accommodation and gold wristbands were provided to us in exchange for a review. However, my opinion, as always, is genuine and based on a realistic experience.

Love this blog! Can’t wait to book this for next year. Do they have restaurants on site that offer breakfast, lunch and dinner? Are they reasonably price?

We bought cereal from the supermarket for breakfast. They have restaurants there. We only ate at one of them and they had pizza, fries, chicken etc. I wouldn’t say it was cheap tbh
