Sandbox VR London REVIEW: The Closest Thing to Stepping Inside a Video Game

If you’re looking for something completely different to do in London, Sandbox VR is well worth checking out. With locations in Wandsworth, White City and Covent Garden, this full body virtual reality experience takes gaming to a whole new level and genuinely feels like you’ve stepped inside a video game.

Unlike traditional VR experiences where you’re standing in one place, Sandbox VR uses full body motion tracking, allowing players to physically move around the arena, interact with their surroundings and work together inside the virtual world. Combined with the headset, special effects and realistic gameplay, it’s one of the most immersive attractions we’ve come across.

We recently visited the Wandsworth location and, although I was spectating this time, the rest of my family couldn’t wait to get involved. My sister, 16 year old nephew, 16 year old cousin, 10 year old daughter and 8 year old niece all took part in the Squid Game Virtuals experience.

Before anyone worries, this isn’t the same as the Squid Game TV series. The virtual reality version is a fun, action packed team game that was completely suitable for everyone in our group. From the moment the game started, they were fully immersed, running around, working together, laughing and becoming incredibly competitive. Watching from the sidelines was almost as entertaining as playing.

What impressed me most was how engaged everyone was throughout the experience. Teenagers can be notoriously difficult to impress, while younger children often enjoy completely different activities, but Sandbox VR somehow managed to keep everyone entertained from start to finish. There was plenty of laughter, lots of teamwork and more than a few competitive moments along the way.

One of the biggest strengths of Sandbox VR is the variety of experiences available. Alongside Squid Game Virtuals, you can choose from adventures including Stranger Things Catalyst, Deadwood PHOBIA, Amber Sky 2088, Curse of Davy Jones, Seekers of the Shard and Age of Dinosaurs. Whether you’re visiting with family, friends or colleagues, there’s likely to be an experience that suits your group.

Prices start from around £25 per person and can rise to approximately £45 depending on the location, day and time of your visit. Peak periods, weekends and school holidays are typically the most expensive times to book.

After seeing just how much fun everyone had, it’s easy to understand why Sandbox VR has become one of London’s most popular immersive attractions. The fact that it kept an 8 year old, a 10 year old, two 16 year olds and an adult equally entertained is probably the biggest compliment I can give it. Finding an activity that genuinely appeals to such a wide age range isn’t always easy, but Sandbox VR absolutely delivered.

If you’re searching for one of the best virtual reality experiences in London, whether for a family day out, birthday celebration, teen activity or group adventure with friends, Sandbox VR is definitely worth considering. Just be prepared for some friendly competition once the headsets go on.
