The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead Snowboarding Lessons REVIEW

If you are looking for a fun and beginner-friendly way to introduce your child to snow sports, the snowboarding lessons at The Snow Centre are a great place to start. Located in Hertfordshire, this indoor real-snow slope is the closest of its kind to London and offers structured lessons designed specifically for children.

@kiddoadventures

Kids can learn to snowboard on REAL snow just outside London 🏂❄️ My daughter tried a beginner snowboarding lesson at The Snow Centre and it was such a good experience. She did a 60-minute lesson for £28 and learnt the basics like balance, stopping and sliding on the slope. She actually ended up being the only one in her class… so it turned into a private lesson 😅 a win is a win You’ll need gloves (compulsory), but helmets and snow boots are included and there are free lockers too. They also have Downhill Donuts, sledging during select Christmas dates and ski lessons for younger kids, so there’s plenty to do even if you’re not snowboarding ⛷️🍩 You can get a 30 minute train from Euston to Apsley and then walk from there. There’s also parking on-site 🚗 it took us around 1 hour in the car! 📍 The Snow Centre, St Albans Hill, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9NH Would you book this for your kids? 👀 #londonforkids #daytripsfromlondon #ukdaysout #daysoutwiththekids #snowboard

Kids Snowboarding Lessons

This is the activity we chose, and it was such a good experience from start to finish.

Children are grouped by age to make sure the lessons match their ability and attention span:

  • Ages 7 to 11: 60-minute lesson
  • Ages 11 to 16: 90-minute lesson

My daughter, who is 10, did the 60-minute session, which cost £28, and it was definitely worth it.

This is an introductory lesson, so it is perfect for beginners. During the session, children learn:

  • How to use their snowboard equipment
  • Basic slope etiquette
  • One-footed skills
  • Balance and control
  • Heel-edge slide slipping

What You Need to Know Before You Go

There are a few important things to be aware of before your visit:

  • Helmets are mandatory and included in the price. You can bring your own or use one provided
  • Gloves are mandatory. You will need to bring your own or purchase a pair on-site
  • Snow boots are included in the price

Free lockers are available, so you can store your belongings safely while you are on the slope.

Other Activities at The Snow Centre

If snowboarding is not your thing or you want to try something extra, there are plenty of other activities available.

Downhill Donuts

One of the most popular options is the Downhill Donuts experience.

This is a 30-minute session where you sit in a donut-shaped tube and slide down a purpose-built snow slope. Expect spinning, sliding and a lot of laughter. It is suitable for children aged 4 and up and runs on weekends and during school holidays.

Seasonal Sledging

During the Christmas period, they usually run special sledging sessions that you can book in advance, which are always popular with families.

Ski Lessons

They also offer ski lessons for children aged 4 and above, making it a great place to try different snow sports in one location.

Food and Viewing Area

The Lodge Bar and Kitchen is located on the second floor and has an alpine-style feel.

It is the perfect place to:

  • Watch your children during their lesson
  • Warm up after your session
  • Grab food and drinks

It overlooks the slope, so you can keep an eye on everything while relaxing.

Parking and Nearest Station

The Snow Centre is located on St Albans Hill, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9NH, and it is very easy to get to from London.

  • Parking: On-site parking is available
  • Nearest station: Apsley. It’s around 30 minutes from London Euston, approximately five stops on the train, followed by a 15/20 minute walk to the centre.

Is It Worth It?

If you are looking for a unique activity that feels completely different from a typical day out, the snowboarding lessons at The Snow Centre are definitely worth booking.

It is well organised, beginner-friendly, and a great way for kids to build confidence while learning something new. The mix of structured lessons and fun activities like Downhill Donuts makes it ideal for a full family day out.

For London families, it is one of the easiest ways to experience real snow without leaving the UK.
