We recently took another day trip to Butlins Bognor Regis, and I’m excited to share the details with you. Last time, I drove, but this time I decided to be a bit lazier and opted for the train. With a Family and Friends Railcard, I scored a pretty good discount on train tickets. These railcards are great for families with children aged 5 and up. I used my Tesco Clubcard points to get a Family Railcard for just £9 for the entire year, which is an amazing deal.
Initially, I found train tickets to Butlins for just £11, but I waited too long to book and the price went up. Eventually, I got tickets for £18, which covered return journeys for both an adult and a child.
We caught the train from Clapham Junction to Bognor Regis (our friends joined us at East Croydon). The journey took 1 hour and 39 minutes. Bognor Regis station is about a 15-minute walk from Butlins, and it’s a lovely stroll along the seafront with beautiful views.
For entry into Butlins, I paid £19 for myself and £11 for my daughter, totaling £30. This price included unlimited rides in their traditional fairground, access to the indoor fairground, Splash Waterworld, live daytime shows, arcades, bars, restaurants, character photo ops, and more. Some activities, like archery, high ropes, and laser tag, require an extra fee, and you can find details on the Butlins app or website. The website also offers a day visits guide tailored to the specific date you’ll be visiting.
I’m a big fan of the huge Splash Waterworld. When you compare it to other waterparks in the UK, you’re likely to spend more than £30 on entry alone. At Butlins, you definitely get your money’s worth.
Butlins also offers day visits to their other locations in Minehead and Skegness, but Bognor Regis is the closest to London, which is why we chose it.
Here’s a breakdown of our costs for one adult and one child:
Day pass tickets: £30
Return train tickets: £18 (could be cheaper if booked early)
Lunch: £15.10 for two kids’ meals and a Fanta at the fish and chip shop (we also brought snacks to reduce food costs)
Cookie dough and ice cream: £4.95
Ice cream: £2.95
Arcade games: Don’t ask! Let’s just say we had a lot of fun!
There’s no denying that Butlins could use some TLC, as it’s a bit run down. However, I noticed on this trip that they’re making some improvements. Despite this, I still believe it’s a fantastic place to take your kids. You definitely get a lot of value for what you pay.
