Despicable Me 4 REVIEW: Gru and the Minions Are Back!

“Despicable Me 4,” the latest installment in the beloved franchise, is finally here, and we had the chance to watch a preview of the movie ahead of its official UK release on July 12. I’m thrilled to say it’s just as delightful as its predecessors, packed with more cheekiness, silliness, and fun! After a seven-year wait, fans are in for a treat with this new adventure. Warning: spoilers ahead! I’ll share a bit about the plot and whether it’s worth your time.

The movie kicks off with Gru attending a reunion at his old university, where he encounters a former student and rival, Maxime Le Mal. Maxime, who wins the award for best alumni, transforms himself into a cockroach in a bid to showcase his villainy. Despite Maxime’s antics, Gru, now a reformed good guy working with the Anti-Villain League (AVL), manages to arrest him. However, Maxime vows revenge and eventually escapes from prison, forcing Gru and his family into hiding. This installment is hilariously entertaining, with the minions once again stealing the show with their trademark cheekiness and humor.

Pharrell Williams returns to provide some music for the soundtrack, continuing the musical magic that has been a staple of the series. As a fan of both the franchise and Pharrell, I’m delighted.

The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 34 minutes and has been rated U by the BBFC, citing “very mild comic violence, threat, language, and rude humor.” Personally, I enjoy the playful humor, and rest assured, it’s not too rude.
