Oh. What. Fun. REVIEW – A Christmas Comedy Worth Watching This December

Oh. What. Fun. is an upcoming American Christmas comedy heading to Prime Video on 3 December, and I was lucky enough to watch a preview, so here’s my full review. The story centres around Claire Clauster, a mother and grandmother who makes the Christmas magic happen every single year. Her children and grandchildren don’t truly realise how much she does—until she suddenly goes missing.

One of the first things that stood out to me, without giving away any major spoilers, is a moment where Claire mentions how few Christmas films actually focus on a woman as the main character. When you really think about it, she’s absolutely right, and it makes this movie feel refreshing. Claire is played by Michelle Pfeiffer, who completely carries the film in the best way.

The movie itself is funny, light, and filled with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. The pacing feels good, it never drags, and it’s just a really fun Christmas watch. I also love the way Americans go all out with their festive decorations—every house in this film is beautifully over the top in the most charming way.

Beneath the comedy, there’s an important message that I think a lot of families will relate to. Many mums put in a huge amount of effort at Christmas—cooking, organising, stressing, and making sure everyone else has a magical day. It’s very easy to take that for granted. Not every family is the same, of course, but I think most of us can point to a mum, nan or auntie who does everything behind the scenes. Sometimes they insist they don’t need help, but it’s always worth offering and taking a bit of pressure off where you can.

This film has a few cheeky moments, so personally I wouldn’t watch it with my daughter at her age (she’s 10). It’s been given a 12 rating, so it really depends on what you’re comfortable with as a parent. For adults though, it’s a great one to put on once the kids are asleep.

Oh. What. Fun. will be available on Amazon Prime Video from 3 December. If you don’t currently have a subscription, it’s worth occasionally checking your Amazon account for deals—I recently got a week of Prime for 99p, which was a nice surprise. And to be fair, there are plenty of good films and series on there anyway, so a subscription might be worth it regardless.

Will you be watching this one when it comes out? Let me know.
