If you’re looking for something affordable and fun to do in London with little ones, the AHOY! Children’s Gallery at the National Maritime Museum is a great shout. It’s designed for babies right up to early primary school kids, and it’s one of those places where children can properly play, explore and burn off energy without you worrying about the weather. The gallery is at the National Maritime Museum, Romney Road, London SE10 9NF, and the nearest station is Greenwich (DLR and rail), with Cutty Sark DLR also a short walk away.
Entry is free on weekdays during term time, which makes it perfect for parents of under-5s. At weekends, on bank holidays and throughout the school holidays, tickets cost £5 per child, and that includes one adult. Babies under six months are free. Your ticket also gives you free entry to the National Maritime Museum, so you can make a full morning or afternoon of it.
The space has been created specifically for ages 0–7, with different areas that work for different stages. There are sensory zones and role play spots for babies and toddlers, plus interactive displays for older children who are ready to get hands-on. Kids can fire cannons, hide in cabins, haul ropes, stoke boilers and basically throw themselves into their own mini maritime adventure. Sessions are 45 minutes long, and while it’s aimed at the younger ones, older kids can still enjoy it.
The gallery is ticketed on weekends, school holidays and bank holidays, and it’s worth booking ahead so you can secure your time slot without queuing. Even though term-time weekdays are free, booking in advance is still recommended because some sessions are held back for school visits, and those can book up fast.

There’s a buggy park close by and easy access to all the facilities you need for a smooth visit. If you fancy a quick break afterwards, the Ocean Court Café on the first floor is just a lift ride away. While you’re at the museum, definitely check out The Cove Playground outside — it’s another great spot for kids to run around, and it’s free.
They also offer birthday party packages at weekends, priced at £510. These include an exclusive private session in the AHOY! Children’s Gallery plus a reserved space on the Ocean Map for food and drinks, depending on whether you choose the morning or afternoon slot.
If you want an indoor activity that’s affordable, easy to reach and genuinely fun for little explorers, this is a solid choice — especially during term time when it doesn’t cost a thing. Book here.
