In Your Dreams is a fantastic family film that genuinely caught my attention from the start. It’s one of those great animated movies that adults can enjoy just as much as the kids. No zoning out, no “this is just for them” moments — it’s genuinely funny and well written.
The story follows Stevie and her brother Elliot, who magically travel into the world of dreams to find The Sandman. Their goal is to convince him to help save their parents’ marriage. And one thing I appreciated straight away: for once, nobody dies. Kids’ films love the dramatic “one missing parent” storyline, so this felt refreshingly different.
The cast is brilliant. The film stars Craig Robinson, Simu Liu and Cristin Milioti. Craig Robinson is hilarious as always and really carries so many of the comedic moments. He brings the exact kind of humour adults appreciate while still keeping it kid-friendly.
The animation is genuinely stunning. You can literally see the fibres on the characters’ clothes, which will never stop amazing me. It shows just how far animation has come over the years (and yes, I know I’m showing my age saying that).
Parents should know there are a few moments younger or more sensitive children might find a bit scary. Nothing too intense, but worth mentioning so you’re prepared.

The film runs for around one hour and fifty minutes and is rated PG, making it a solid option for families who want something long enough to feel like a proper story without losing younger viewers’ attention.
The overall theme is something I really liked: nothing in life is perfect. Without spoiling the plot, the ending reflects that in a very realistic and grounded way. It isn’t over-the-top or cheesy — just honest and surprisingly relatable.
If you’re finishing work or school on a Friday and everyone wants to chill, In Your Dreams is a great Netflix pick for the evening. Funny, well animated, and a film parents won’t mind watching at all.
Streaming on Netflix, Friday 14th November.
