This is a quick first-look review as I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. I’ll be honest—I’ve never been a die-hard Star Wars fan. A few years ago, I watched one of the movies when Cineworld introduced 4DX screenings, and while I did enjoy it, the immersive effects probably played a big role. So, I went into Skeleton Crew not really knowing what to expect. That said, after watching the first two episodes, I’m definitely intrigued and eager to see more.
The series follows the story of four kids searching for their home planet after getting lost in the vast Star Wars galaxy. Along the way, they encounter strange aliens, dangerous new worlds, and a variety of challenges that test their courage and resourcefulness.
What stood out to me is that the main characters are children, which feels like a fresh approach for the Star Wars universe. This could be a smart move to bring in a younger audience while still appealing to long-time fans. The show feels family-friendly—there’s action and fighting, as you’d expect from Star Wars, but nothing too intense or inappropriate for kids. That said, some of the aliens are a bit creepy-looking, so younger viewers might find them unsettling.
A big highlight of the series is Jude Law having a starring role. I’m sure many mums (myself included!) will appreciate seeing him on screen.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premieres on Disney+ on December 3, and I think it’s definitely worth checking out. Even as someone who hasn’t fully immersed themselves in the Star Wars universe, I found the first two episodes engaging and enjoyable. Who knows—this might just be the series that turns me into an official Star Wars fan! If I ever find the time, I might even dive into the movies to get the full experience.
For families or anyone looking for an adventurous new series to watch, this is one to add to your list.
