Family Fun in London: Our REVIEW of Inamo’s Kids Sushi Masterclass

If you’re looking for something fun, educational, and a little different to do with your kids in London, the sushi-making masterclass at Inamo is a fantastic choice. We went a class at the Inamo Covent Garden location, and it was an experience my daughter thoroughly enjoyed.

The masterclass is designed for kids aged 7 to 16, making it suitable for a wide range of ages. During the class, children learn to make two different types of sushi rolls (maki), and by the end of the session, each child will have made 10 pieces of sushi to take home—or eat right away! The sushi-making process was carefully guided by a sushi master who was patient and engaging with the kids, making it easy for even beginners to follow along.

What I loved most about this workshop is how hands-on and interactive it is. From the moment they put on their aprons, the kids are involved in every step of the sushi-making process. They learn how to prepare the rice and of course, roll the sushi. The sense of accomplishment when they finished their rolls and saw what they had created was fantastic. At the end of the class, each child is awarded a fun “Nigiri Ninja” certificate, a perfect keepsake that celebrates their achievement.

Beyond being fun, I found this workshop to be a great learning opportunity for children. Not only are they exposed to a new cuisine and culture, but they also practice skills that can help them in many other areas. Learning how to roll sushi requires focus, fine motor skills, and following directions closely—all of which are important developmental skills. The class also encourages creativity as the children get to customize their sushi rolls by choosing ingredients they like. It’s a great confidence booster for kids to see that they can successfully prepare a dish themselves from start to finish.

The whole experience is very family-friendly, and the fact that it takes place at Inamo is a bonus. The restaurant itself is known for its interactive dining experience, with high-tech tables where you can order food and play games. After the class, families are invited to stay and enjoy a meal with a 15% discount. The combination of sushi-making and the restaurant’s playful atmosphere makes it a perfect day out, especially for kids who love interactive activities.

Currently, the price for the class is £24.95 per child, which is a good value considering the one-hour class, the sushi they make, and the overall experience. The workshop is available at both Inamo’s Covent Garden and Soho locations, so it’s easy to find a class that fits your schedule. The convenience of the central locations near major tube stations also makes it easy to plan a day in the city around the workshop.

If you’re planning a special event like a birthday party, Inamo also offers the option to host sushi-making parties. Given how much fun we had, I can only imagine how exciting it would be to celebrate a special occasion in such an interactive and delicious way!
