Let’s talk about the Yoto Mini, which we were recently sent, along with an exciting bundle: a Yoto card case, the Yoto Mini Adventure Jacket, a starter pack, wireless headphones, and a few Yoto cards I picked up at the Big Christmas Press Show.
From the moment we started setting it up, I was impressed. Everything is done through the app, and it couldn’t have been easier—just follow a few quick steps, and you’re ready to go! I can only compare it to our experience with the Toniebox, which we also love, but let me tell you, setting that one up was a bit of a headache. With the Yoto Mini, we were off to a great start in no time!
For those of you who might not be familiar with it, the Yoto Player is a screen-free audio player designed for kids, where you insert small audiobook cards into the top of the player. It’s a brilliant way to engage little ones without relying on screens. There’s the original Yoto Player, which is larger, but I chose the Mini because I knew it would be perfect for our family’s adventures—and as you all know, we’re always on the move! Whether we’re travelling or just out and about, it’s the ideal companion to keep the kids entertained while limiting their screen time.
I’ll likely update this in the future when we travel abroad, but I just wanted to share my experience so far. My daughter and I are both loving the Yoto player! We’ve taken it on a few car journeys, like to school or her clubs, and she thinks it’s fantastic. It’s super easy for her to use, and she doesn’t need any help from me at all.
The Yoto player cards are brilliant. We got a starter pack that included some great options. My daughter especially enjoys the crackling fire sounds at night, which really helps her relax. One thing I’ve noticed is that compared to the Toniebox, the Yoto player offers a wider range of stories for older children. While we still use our Toniebox, as my daughter grows up, she’s more interested in listening to stories like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and David Walliams books. This is why we’re really loving the Yoto player at the moment.
My daughter was never as interested in Harry Potter as I was, but now that we have the Harry Potter Yoto cards, I can see her becoming more engaged with the series. I thought I would also mention that the Yoto player cards are significantly cheaper than Tonies.
The headphones are great, too. They work with the Yoto player both wirelessly and with a wire, and they even come with a cloth travel bag. While you don’t have to use the official Yoto headphones, it’s nice to know they’re available.
We also have the Yoto card case, which is pretty handy. It’s priced at £24.99 and comes in different colours. The case can hold 64 cards, which I think is a great size.
The Mini Adventure Jacket is fantastic as well. It protects the Yoto player from damage—which is super helpful with kids! It comes in a variety of colours, so if you have multiple children, it’s easy to distinguish between their players.
Overall, the Yoto player has been perfect for us when we’re on the go. I’ll definitely update this post when we take the Yoto Mini abroad, which is happening very soon, so stay tuned!
UPDATE!
Here’s a little update: we finally took the Yoto Mini Player on a trip abroad! We just returned from Geneva, and it worked perfectly on the plane. It provided wonderful, screen-free entertainment for my daughter. The key is to play the cards while you’re at home and connected to Wi-Fi to ensure they download properly. Since there’s no Wi-Fi on the plane, you’ll want to have everything ready beforehand. Once the downloads are complete, you can take the Yoto Mini anywhere and play any card, even without a Wi-Fi connection. As long as you do this, you won’t run into any issues.
