Mean Girls Musical REVIEW: A Hilariously Cheesy Theatrical Treat

A couple of weeks ago, my bestie and I went to see Mean Girls the musical, and let me tell you, it was a total cheese-fest – and I loved every minute of it! If you enjoyed the original film, you’re in for a treat because this musical sticks closely to the movie, but with plenty of fun, over-the-top musical numbers that bring a cheesy charm.

The set designs and transitions were so well thought out, and the actors really brought the energy. The singing was fantastic, with some real powerhouse performances. For me, the standout was the actor who played Damian—he completely stole the show! His comedic timing was spot on, and he had the audience in stitches the entire time.

The musical runs a little longer than the movie, and there are definitely a few lines from the original film that didn’t make it in, probably to avoid today’s cancel culture. But it’s still hilarious, and my bestie and I were laughing non-stop.

We booked our tickets through the Fever app, which I highly recommend for theatre shows and loads of other fun activities around London and beyond. Our seats were in the stalls (J21 and J22), and the view was excellent. If you’re planning to go, check out SeatPlan – it’s a great resource where people share photos and reviews of their theatre seats, so you can find the best spots.

Tickets start from £25pp.

As for the audience, I did notice a few kids, probably around 8 to 12 years old, but honestly, I don’t think the show is appropriate for that age group. The recommended age is 10+, but I’d personally suggest it for those 15 and over, given some of the mature content.

There’s also some great merch available, so get there early if you want to check it out. Don’t miss the massive Burn Book display before you enter the theatre—it’s a popular photo op, but there was a bit of a queue when we went.

The show is at the Savoy Theatre (Savoy Ct, Strand, London WC2R 0ET), just a short walk from Charing Cross station and Covent Garden. I definitely recommend seeing it – it’s a musical I’d love to experience all over again!
