A Night to Remember: Story Quest Sleepover REVIEW at Discover Children’s Story Centre

You’ve seen our sleepover at the Science Museum (Astronights), and you’ve seen us sleepover at Westfield London. Now, it’s time to review our latest adventure: Story Quest Sleepover at Discover Children’s Story Centre. I have to say, it was fantastic from start to finish, and I can’t wait to share this review with you all!

Address: 383-387 High Street Stratford London E15 4QZ. A short walk away from Stratford Station.

Discover an enchanting new experience for kids aged 6-11 and their adults with the Story Quest Sleepover! This magical overnight adventure invites you to explore Discover after-hours.

The event officially starts at 6 pm and costs £59 per person. To ensure a cosy night, it’s recommended to bring inflatables, sleeping bags, and pillows. While there are no showers available, you can freshen up in the toilets, which are cleaned upon arrival. Since dinner is not provided, it’s a good idea to eat beforehand. Westfield Stratford, a short walk away, offers a variety of restaurants, or you can choose to eat at home to save money. Feel free to bring snacks and water, though breakfast is included in the price.

Our evening began with an arrival just before 6 pm, where we utilized the convenient lockers (20p, returnable) to store our sleeping bags and other items. The kids enjoyed some playtime in the garden while we waited for other families to arrive. Soon after, we met our camp leader and divided into two groups: the Foxes and the Owls. Our group, the Owls, received blue bandanas to help identify us.

The first activity was the Monster Funfair, Discover’s latest immersive family adventure. We journeyed through a fantastical circus tent and into the woods, marveling at the beautifully designed and interactive experience. After the funfair, we took a quick drink/toilet break. Each child received a delightful goody bag containing a torch, pencils, crayons, a mug, a badge, a magnifying glass, and an activity book. These items would be used for later activities.

Next, we engaged in a lantern-making activity, which all the kids enjoyed. The lanterns became handy for the final part of the evening. The kids also decorated their activity books with stickers provided.

Up next was the quest. One of the activity leaders gathered the kids and excitedly explained that they’d be embarking on a fun scavenger hunt across two floors. You’d think this would tire them out, but their energy only seemed to grow.

Then it was campfire time. Though not a real fire, the cute, realistic setup created a magical atmosphere. The kids gathered around for hot chocolate, storytime, biscuits, and sang some camp songs. It was so lovely! They used the lanterns they had made earlier along with the torches from their goody bags, which really set the scene. The gentle crackling sounds of the campfire in the background added a perfect touch to the experience.

Afterwards, we were escorted family by family to our sleeping areas. We freshened up in the toilets and changed into our pajamas, then settled down for the night.

We were woken up around 7 am by one of the camp leaders with a megaphone. If I’m being honest, the sleep was rough, but that was my own fault. I thought it would be much like Astronights where inflatables weren’t allowed, but we could have brought them, so we ended up sleeping on the hard and uncomfortable floor!

The morning began with a playful run around the garden, followed by a breakfast. For breakfast, we had sausage baps (other options available) and a hot drink each. Please inform them of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Then it was home time. Despite the less-than-ideal sleeping conditions (my fault), the experience was wonderful and one I highly recommend! Just be sure to bring an inflatable mattress for comfort, and you’ll have a fantastic night!
