Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget – A Hilarious Animated Comedy | Movie Review 2023

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, a 2023 British stop-motion animated comedy, arrives on Netflix December 15. Having attended a special screening, I can genuinely say it’s a fantastic movie—funny, action-packed, and worth watching upon release.

As the sequel to the 2000 film ‘Chicken Run,’ it continues the story with Ginger, the chicken who successfully escaped Tweedy’s farm. Now settled in a new chicken paradise, Ginger faces new challenges when her daughter, Molly, yearns to explore the outside world. The plot unfolds as Molly ends up in a dangerous chicken factory, prompting Ginger and the other chickens to embark on a mission to save her.

While not essential, watching the first movie enhances the experience. The film is filled with humorous moments that captivated both kids and adults alike.

Before the screening, we heard from Director Sam Fell and some of the voice actors, learning about the six years of effort invested in creating the movie. The intricate stop-motion process, with sequences taking up to a week for just four minutes, showcases the dedication of the team.

After the movie, we participated in an Aardman workshop, attempting to create Molly with clay—an experience highlighting the incredible talent required for stop-motion animation.

Notably, a Chicken Run game is set to release in 2024, free for Netflix subscribers. Additionally, the revelation that mobile games can be played on the Netflix app was a delightful discovery today. Search “games” on the Netflix app to find them.

Did you know Netflix subscriptions begin at just £4.99? I use this exact plan, which includes ads but is the most affordable option. If you’re looking to save money, it’s worth checking out!
