Today, we attended an exclusive screening of the new Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie at Cineworld Leicester Square. Fair warning: this review contains spoilers, so if you’d like to avoid them, it’s best to stop reading now.
For parents of Paw Patrol enthusiasts, you’re likely wondering if it’s worth the watch. Without a doubt, if your child is a devoted Paw Patrol fan, they’ll thoroughly enjoy this movie. Surprisingly, as an adult, you might find enjoyment too, thanks to the numerous funny moments and clever one-liners sprinkled throughout.
The film centers around Ryder, a young boy leading a team of rescue dogs, each with their own distinct skills and personalities, as they tackle challenges and consistently aid the Adventure Bay community.
The plot kicks off when a magical meteor crash-lands in Adventure City, granting the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The Mighty Pups. This alteration in status is embraced by Skye, the smallest team member, who sees it as an opportunity to overcome her feelings of inferiority. Of course, a movie like this wouldn’t be complete without some form of conflict. Humdinger teams up with the nefarious scientist Vee, scheming to steal the pups’ powers to turn them into super villains. While they succeed momentarily, the pups unite and triumph in the end.
My little one thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and despite being seven years old, she remained captivated, laughing and engrossed in the on-screen action. Surprisingly, as an adult, I found the movie enjoyable too. It carries a great message for kids, illustrating that even the smallest among us can be mighty and confident, emphasizing the power of teamwork to achieve remarkable things in life.
The BBFC assigned a U rating to this movie, citing “Brief scenes of very mild threat.”
For those eager to catch it early, mark your calendars for September 30 and October 1, 7 & 8 (verify local cinema for special previews). The movie hits cinemas everywhere on October 13. You can watch the trailer here.
