The Wave in Coventry: A Must-Visit Water Park in the U.K. – Honest and Detailed Review

To ensure complete transparency, I want to mention that entry to all the attractions discussed in this post was complimentary. However, as always, my reviews are based on honesty.

Now, let’s delve into the reasons behind our visit to Coventry. Back in 2021, we had the opportunity to explore The Wave, an outstanding Waterpark located just a short stroll away from Coventry station.

During our most recent visit, we were graciously invited to capture content before the venue opened to the public, giving us 30 minutes to do so. While photography and filming are not allowed during regular sessions for obvious reasons, this special arrangement allowed us to capture the essence of the place.

To reach Coventry, we opted for the train journey from Euston, as I had made a prior booking due to my reluctance to drive. I recommend booking train tickets well in advance to secure the best prices. Utilizing a split ticketing website and a Family and Friends railcard, which provides discounts for both adults and kids, we managed to obtain the train tickets at the most affordable rates. The railcard is applicable when traveling with a child aged 5-15.

Split ticketing involves breaking down your train journey into multiple tickets instead of purchasing a single one. By adopting this approach, significant savings can be achieved compared to buying a single ticket. Websites like Train Split can assist in securing such deals. Although I could have potentially obtained even cheaper fares with more planning, my last-minute booking led to a return ticket cost of £37.88, as opposed to the £70 I saw on thetrainline.com. A train to Coventry from Euston can take as little as 1 hour. This of course depends on the train service you use.

Now, about The Wave: It’s a fantastic destination featuring six slides, a wave pool, lazy river, and a splash area for children under 8. Admission prices start from £13, with infants under 1 granted free entry. Full pricing info can be found here.

Upon arrival, visitors are provided with wristbands that activate lockers. This cashless approach is convenient for me, as I rarely carry cash for lockers and prefer not to carry around a key.

Each session at The Wave lasts for 2 hours, which proves to be sufficient time to enjoy all the offerings. Despite it being the summer holidays, it didn’t feel overwhelmingly busy. Although slide queues were present, the waiting times were reasonable, allowing us to even experience some of them twice. The invitingly warm water ensures a delightful day out, making it a family-friendly attraction. You can view my tiktok here.

Next, The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is just a short walk away from The Wave and offers free admission. While booking isn’t mandatory for general visits, certain exhibitions, events, and activities can be reserved via their website. During our visit, we explored Dippy the Diplodocus and little was able to participate in their creative walls workshop, which involved constructing miniature 3D buildings.

Continuing our journey, we encountered The Coventry Transport Museum, also a short walk away from The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. This museum, much larger than its London counterpart, captivated us with its extensive collection of British vehicles. Admission starts at £7, with children under five enjoying free entry. Remarkably, all tickets remain valid for a full year from the date of purchase, permitting multiple visits.

Participating in Tinker, Make, Play at the museum, little miss enjoyed disassembling everyday items and crafting imaginative creations using real tools. It was tough for her to leave, as the event allowed for an engaging hands-on experience. Their events page reveals a wealth of opportunities for children, making it a must-visit spot when in Coventry.

With numerous dining options available in Coventry, including Nando’s, Las Iguanas, and McDonald’s, grabbing a meal is convenient. You might want to consider visiting Alfred’s Café at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, just as we did. They offer a variety of sandwiches, hot food, and beverages. Additionally, there’s a small play area available for kids to explore.

Overall, Coventry proved to be a splendid destination that left a positive impression on us, and I’m confident it will do the same for you.
