Experience the Magic of The Snowman at The Peacock Theatre: A Review
What a magical show! If you’re familiar with Raymond Briggs’ beloved picture book The Snowman or the enchanting animated television special, you’re in for a delightful experience with this live ballet production at The Peacock Theatre. Just like the book and the film, this adaptation is entirely wordless, allowing the stunning choreography and beautiful music to bring the story to life.
The story introduces us to an energetic little boy who adores the snow. He builds his very own snowman, which magically comes to life! The Snowman costume is brilliantly designed, capturing the essence of the character while maintaining realism. It’s impressive how they achieved this on stage.
As the boy and the snowman embark on a whimsical adventure while his parents sleep, I couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the book, the animated special, and this theatrical performance. The anticipation of seeing beloved scenes come to life was exhilarating, and I was not disappointed!
One of the most enchanting moments of the show is when the boy and the snowman take flight. The gasps of awe from the children in the audience, including my little one, filled the theatre. It was heartwarming to witness such wonder and excitement!
After a brief interval, we return to find the boy and the snowman in a magical winter wonderland. This scene introduces us to snowmen from around the globe, a graceful ballerina, and the fabulous Santa Claus. Each moment is beautifully choreographed, drawing the audience deeper into the holiday spirit.
We all know how the story ends with the snowman melting, which is a bittersweet moment. However, the performance concludes on a high note, with the entire cast returning to the stage for a joyful dance. Plus, there’s a special treat at the end that the whole family will adore!
