Walton-on-the-Naze Beach Hut REVIEW: Relaxation by the Sea

Yesterday we spent the day at our favourite beach, which is Walton on the Naze. I love this beach for many different reasons. I think the main one is that it’s never busy. There are, of course other families there, but I’ve never seen it get as busy as Southend or Brighton.

Thanks to Walton on the Naze beach hut, we had the wonderful opportunity to stay in a beach hut for the first time, and it was an experience we absolutely loved and plan to repeat.

Upon arrival at the beach hut, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautifully decorated interior, which was clean and conveniently located close to the beach. It had everything we needed for our little getaway.

Little Miss was delighted to find a variety of toys available. Although I had brought her own beach toys, it was a nice touch to see that the beach hut also provided some. Additionally, there were coloring pencils, crayons, books, and card games for entertainment. Inside the hut, we found deckchairs, a table, and a small kitchen stocked with glasses, mugs, and tea and coffee making facilities.

Upon further exploration inside the hut, I discovered even more thoughtful amenities such as nappies, sunscreen, and water aids. It’s clear they have taken every detail into consideration for a family beach trip. I can’t praise it enough. Plus, at only £50 per day, I think it’s a fantastic price!

Price: £50 a day

So now to the question that I have been asked on Instagram.

Are there toilets?

While there are toilets nearby, not inside the beach hut itself, I must admit they’re not the cleanest, which is somewhat expected. Beach public toilets are rarely spotless in my experience—I don’t think I’ve ever seen a perfectly clean one, to be honest! If you’re visiting with little ones, I would recommend bringing a potty along, just to be on the safe side.

Is there electricity?

There is no electricity in the beach hut, which I actually appreciate. It creates a more unplugged atmosphere, ideal for focusing on enjoying the sandy beach rather than watching TV or using iPads. If you need to charge your phone, I recommend investing in a power bank. They’re available at places like eBay, Argos, and even Primark.

Does it have a sink?

Yes, the beach hut does have a sink, but there is no plumbing connected to it. You’ll need to empty it yourself once your stay is over. Fortunately, there’s a tap conveniently located a short walk away where you can fill and drain the sink.

Did I see you had a Veranda?

Yes, that’s correct. Not every beach hut has a veranda, so I thought ours was quite special in that regard. It provided a nice spot to relax away from the beach if we wanted. We actually spent some time chilling out there. We brought the deckchairs from inside the hut and enjoyed the outdoors for a while. It really gave us that vacation feeling, almost like being abroad.

What else is there to do in the area?

Well, there is a pier nearby, but unfortunately, it’s currently closed. I believe it should reopen sometime in May. You can still enjoy a walk down to the beach and spend time on the beautiful sand, perhaps collecting some gorgeous shells.

There are plenty of options for food nearby, including fish and chips, doughnuts, and ice cream. It’s worth noting that most of these places only accept cash, so make sure you have some on hand. If you forget, there’s a Co-op nearby with a cash machine. Additionally, if you need to pick up some essentials like water, there’s a Tesco, Lidl, and M&S in the vicinity as well.

A bit further away from the beach hut on Hall Lane, there’s a playground that I’m sure most kids would love to visit.

How did you get there?

I considered taking the train instead of driving because I wasn’t keen on navigating multiple changes. Ultimately, I opted to drive, and it took just under 2 hours from South West London. I parked at Church Road car park, which charges £6 for the day, a reasonable rate. For those preferring public transport, the nearest train station is Walton-on-the-Naze, and it’s a very short walk from there to the beach hut.

Here is some other info you might find useful.

  • Colchester Zoo is under an hour away. You could potentially do both in a day.
  • If you fancy having a staycation then check out Parkdean Naze Marine Holiday Park. I think we’re going to book that next!
  • Hasty’s Adventure farm is about a 25 minute drive away.
  • Check out this website for tide times so you can plan your day at the beach.
