This Christmas is the first Christmas that our 3 yr old Henry has understood what Christmas is and he was very excited to meet Santa. I work in a museum so thought a grotto in a museum would be a good idea.

You have to book ahead for the grotto, there are some sold out slots but plenty still available. Wait to purchase the photo until you’ve seen them, which you do at their photo printing booth after your visit.

The grotto is set up in the Victorian Walk section of the museum so it is lovely and atmospheric as you wait.

We waited for about 5 minutes for our turn, but still went in during our booked timeslot.

We got about 5 minutes with Santa where we received a present had a little chat and got to ring some sleigh bells. The host/photographer took about 5 photos including ones with the whole family for us to choose from. You cannot take any personal photos in the grotto.

Although we had a good time I’ll probably pick a different grotto next year because I think there are grottos that offer more for your money. What I will say is that the setting was lovely and Santa was really great with Henry and you have the added bonus of being in a fun museum with lots of other things to do.
