So my name is Danielle and I’m 29 years old and from east London (Shoreditch)
Q1. How old was your child when you first went abroad/first staycation?
My daughters first holiday was to Spain at just 4 months young
Q2. What was the journey like? Be honest good bits and bad bits?
Although I dreaded her first time on a plane it actually went surprisingly well, she pretty much slept through the whole flight and if ever she did fuss I was able to calm her down by breastfeeding her. I was quite nervous about breastfeeding on a plane but everybody seemed to mind their own business and before you knew it we had arrived in Spain.
Q3. What’s this best thing about travelling with kids?
Now that my daughter is a little older and is starting to understand the whole experience of going abroad, the smile on her face and the uncontrollable excitement is pure bliss for me. Being able to have my mini me see the world with me is definitely something I would like to continue throughout her life and I hope she shares the same passion that I have for travelling. So far she loves it, at only 20 months she understands that she’s away from home and is always eager to get started with the holiday activities.
Q4. What’s the worst thing about travelling with kids?
Oh where should I start ha, temper tantrums because now she refuses to wear her seatbelt whilst sat on my laps, the constant stares abroad and people feeling entitled to kiss or touch my daughters hair which really stresses me out and also the unwanted photos being taken of us, this is still something I’m learning to cope with. My daughter is still quite young and thankfully travelling with her is more enjoyable then it is stressful.
Q5. What are your must haves in your suitcase?
Insect repellents, colouring books, my daughters favourite toys, an extra carton of Alpro growing up milk and baby paracetamol.
Q6. What are your travel plans for the future?
Before the year comes to an end we have Italy booked again and aim to squeeze in one more trip to either Barcelona or turkey. Ive also started searching for our holidays for next year which include, Greece and Bali/Thailand.
Q7. What are you top travel trips?
Parents usually have priority to board the planes first but I tend to board the plane last as that way its closer to when the flight will actually take off and is easier for me to get my daughter settled in.
I also buy her a new toy from Poundland and allow her to open it up on the flight, this usually keeps her entertained till she falls asleep.
We use an old bed sheet on the beach which acts as a really big beach towel and keeps all our belongings together.
I also book my flights around the times when my daughter will be sleeping, so early morning and night time flights.
