Travelling with kids – Meet Andrea

Hi I’m Andrea, family of 3 from NW London.

Q1. How old was your child when you first went abroad/first staycation?

We first took Ita abroad when she was 4 months old. We travelled to Salou. Her first staycataion however was a trip to the Cotswolds at 5 weeks old!

Q2. What was the journey like? Be honest good bits and bad bits?

Flying with a baby is very easy so long as you have someone to help with bags. In terms of the actual flight, Ita slept most but we did bring a bottle to help her ears with the pressure.

Q3. What’s this best thing about travelling with kids?

Just how much they soak up. They really are little sponges! When Ita was only 2 years she could identify that people lived in other countries which blew my mind. She tells me that nanny is from Poland and daddad is from Spain!

Q4. What’s the worst thing about travelling with kids?

Honestly I can’t list anything! Maybe some ignorance of airlines?

Q5. What are your must haves in your suitcase?

Home comforters are good whether that be a special toy and snack. It can be overwhelming for children and their excitement makes them tired, so having something to remind them of home is handy.

Q6. What are your travel plans for the future?

We’re off to Disneyland Paris, Dubai and Disneyworld Florida and I think that will exhaust all our annual leave!

And finally.

Q7. What are you top travel trips?

Biggest one is don’t stress the journey. Don’t overthink it! What will be will be and as much as you will plan, you just can’t predict your child’s temperament on the day of travel! Try and be patient with them.

Bring items that you know will pass time ie playdoh. Avoid items that can be easily dropped and lost. God knows how many times I’ve had to keep looking for a tiny shopkins under our tight seats!!

Take pool items with you – they charge so much when you’re away!

Bring a buggy – even if you don’t use one typically, it’s so handy when travelling through airports and for naps.

Bring a medical kit – plasters, sudocrem, paracetamol, antihistamines etc. It will almost always be needed!

Most importantly, enjoy! Relax, lighten up! Holidays are so special and they will often be the memories you take with you into adulthood.
