Gran Canaria

I’ve had so many DMS on my Instagram about our holiday already so of course I’m going to write a blog post about everything that we get up to and also how much we paid for the holiday etc.

I booked this holiday last year while I was on the beach in Salou 🤣 there’s nothing like having a holiday to look forward.

I originally booked a self catering holiday for the 25th April for 1 week.

I booked with Thomas Cook because there is no deposit and I can pay by direct debit. I love package holidays because I know that my luggage and transfers are always included in the price.

Now when my holiday confirmation came through this is what I saw:

There must have been some sort of glitch in the system because my holiday was now an all inclusive holiday and I only paid £529. As you can imagine I was over the moon 😀

It’s gets better…

So a few months later I get an email from Thomas Cook saying that my flights have been changed. I checked to see that they changed my morning flight to an evening flight which really annoyed me. I always book morning flights because I want my daughter to sleep on the plane.

When I got in contact with Thomas Cook they let me know that I could change the dates of my holiday which meant that I could have an earlier flight which I of course agreed to but because the flights were cheaper this also meant my holiday was now cheaper so I ended up paying £470.48 altogether. Again I was ecstatic 😀

The journey & Day 1

I am fortunate enough to live right by Victoria coach station so I got a £5 Uber to Victoria coach station and a £7 coach to Gatwick Airport. A taxi straight there would’ve cost me over £50 so I saved a lot! Always book an open return when travelling by coach because flight delays/cancellations can happen at any time!

For the first time ever…I left the iPad at home 😀Little Miss was fine on the plane with snacks and play doh. She even made a little friend on the plane and they got play doh everywhere 🤣 I think it might be the new thing to be banned from planes after this!

The Coach transfer was included in the super cheap price so that was one less thing to worry about. We hopped of the plane onto the coach and the journey was under 1hr.

Our hotel is called Altamar and it’s BEAUTIFUL

Our first day here was pretty chilled. We just spent it at the pool, had good food then headed straight for bed.

Day 2 & 3

Day 2 was a pretty chilled day. We headed to the beach in the morning which was a very steep walk down a very long curvy road (there was no way we were walking back so we got a taxi back up that hill) The beach was lovely and the kids really enjoyed themselves!

In the evening we headed over to the Moonlight Cinema. It’s the only permanent outdoor cinema in Europe. We watched the brilliant film “Instant Family” If you do watch this movie then get the tissues out 😭😀

What I loved about this place was the beautiful atmosphere. A movie night under the stars was perfect. They even provided us with the warmest blankets! We were kindly gifted with this experience but as you know my reviews are always honest and I would definitely go again as a paying customer!

Day 3 was fantastic! We went on our first excursion to see…DOLPHINS 😭😍😍🐬

Whales and turtles are included but rare to see. We saw so many beautiful Dolphins, 2 Turtles and no Whales! It was a fabulous experience! You can see these beautiful creatures in aquariums across the world but it’s truly amazing to see them in their natural habitat! The experience cost just €35 (the kids we’re FREE) this included a coach to and from your hotel!

Day 4

Not much to write about as we just spent the day at the beach and the pool but here is a fabulous pic. We went to a different beach this time and I’ll be sure to speak about them in detail further down along with a map.

Day 5

Playa de Mogan is a secluded man-made beach at the foot of the ravine in Puerto de Mogan, Gran Canaria’s Little Venice.” … It’s a go-to place for people who want to explore the beauty of the Atlantic in the Canary Islands.

We took the ferry here and it was such a lovely experience. It was €12 return and the kids were FREE. In Fridays there is a market with a load of things to buy. From clothes, to fans, to gifts to food!

This part of Gran Canaria was visually stunning! Definitely a place I would recommend visiting!

Day 6

We started the day off at the Angry Birds Activity Park. What I liked about this place is the fact your ticket is valid for one full day giving you freedom to come and go as you please.

What’s there to do?

•mini golf

•soft play

•laser maze

•zip wires

•pedal cars & more!

Opening hours

10:00 – 18:00 hrs.

10:00 – 20:00 hrs.

How much?

Unders 3s are FREE

3 & 4 yo – €5

5-13 yo – €8

Adults – €12

It’s a lovely place for kids. Personally I don’t feel like adults should have to pay seeing as it’s not for ALL the family (just for the kids imo) but I would still recommend it.

Anfi Beach

So many people told us to check out this beach. They apparently call it “The Caribbean beach” of the white sand which was more of a greyish White lol but still beautiful. This was definitely my favourite out of all three beaches we visited.

Let’s talk beaches!

A few of you have asked me about the distance from out hotel to the beaches. All 3 beaches were a bit of a walk a way so we had to get the taxi there and back. We never paid more than €4 so that wasn’t too bad.

Green – 1st one we visited and walked to. It took around 20 minutes down a very steep hill. We of course too the taxi back – Amadores beach

Yellow – our hotel – Altamar

Red – Puerto Rico beach – 2nd one we visited

Purple – Anfi Beach – 3rd one we visited

All inclusive

As mentioned above I never booked all inclusive but was given it anyway.

The food was ok. Nothing too special and drinks were slightly limited but this was technically free so I really can’t complain!

Hotel entertainment

Absolutely pants! I really hope this hotel looks into the people running their kids activities as they do not look like they even want to be around kids!

Would we come back?

Not because we didn’t enjoy the holiday. I loved every minute of this holiday but I always like to try somewhere new.

Tomorrow is our last full day here and so I won’t bother updating you on our day as we’re just going to spend it at the hotel making the most of our all inclusive package and soaking up rays at the pool. I always try to have a chilled last day. Hope you guys enjoyed reading. If you have any questions then ask away in the comments xx
