Bear Hunt Live

We were super excited to be invited to the Performance of Bear Hunt Live (based on the book We’re going on a Bear Hunt)

If you’re one of our regular readers then you know we’re now regular theatre goers. We will actually be heading to the theatre again next week 😀

The show took place in the lovely Lyric theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue. We are no strangers to the book. I remember reading it in class as a child and I actually bought the book from The works for just a £1 (it was part of a deal, 10 books for £10) for my daughter and it quickly became one of her favourites.

It was an amazing adaptation and I love how the set was kept to a minimal which allowed the cast to truly shine. They filled the stage with their physical presence, voices and musical instruments.

The story is really brought to life right in front of your eyes. The fourth wall is broken from the very beginning and that allows us to take the bear Hunt journey too. We’re big fans of live music so we were both pleased to see that. My daughters favourite instrument at the moment is a guitar so she was absolutely buzzing when she saw one of the cast playing it.

One of our favourite scenes had to be where the family approach the river. It was portrayed in such an imaginative way and of course water was involved. With it being such a hot day we were very happy to be splashed with water 😀

I must say it wasn’t a lot so do not panic if you’re not a fan of getting wet 😆

Another great scene was when the family got to the snow storm. The scene was set perfectly through lighting and fake snow. My daughter even turned to me and said “mummy it’s cold” which wasn’t the case as it was around 25 degrees that day 😂

Audience participation is always needed and appreciated when a show is aimed at young children. We had an awesome time singing the Bear Hunt song. My daughter was clapping and singing along as she already knew the lyrics. A few months prior we won a Facebook competition and were gifted with a Bear and a Bear Hunt Live musical CD.

We absolutely adored the production and would definitely see it again. I urge you all to do the same!

Throughout August, kids can go free to theatre with a paying adult. Bear Hunt Live will be apart of this amazing promotion!
