Battersea Arts Centre is presenting a amazing production for young people ages 4 months to 4 years this December!

What is Sponge?

A pair of dancers invite babies and young children to roll, squeeze and pop themselves through a new malleable kind of show, set to an original 1970s disco soundtrack. Small and large-scale squishy, squashy environments, fascinating in shape, texture and touch are revealed, and there’s also the leggy character Splegs, who needs a bit of help walking

The show

Now you have all the info, let me tell you about our experience.

What a great show!Imaginative, interactive and extremely enjoyable!

I guess you could say it was a sort of physical theatre piece with a heavy usage of sponges. I found it very creative as I wouldn’t have thought to ever use sponges in the way they used them.

The actors were great and most importantly great with the kids. There were points in the show where they invited some of the kids to take part and play with the Sponges and buckets and all the children felt comfortable to do so!

There were even times where children unexpectedly ran on to the performance space and they were very professional and adapted to it quickly and effectively.

We loved the set up of the audience area

Children and parents sat very comfortably!

The whole performance was fab! We loved the funky music and really enjoyed the playing with the sponges and the mini disco at the end of the performance.

I would give it a 10/10! Not only did my daughter enjoy it but from the looks of the audience, they all enjoyed it too!

It’s great to have a show for under 5s as there are not many about and I’m glad the Battersea Arts centre catered to this need! I think it’s important to introduce children to different arts.

Book before it’s too late. Definitely not a show to miss!

Last but not least. Battersea Arts centre is a lovely place to go if you’re ever looking for somewhere to grab lunch + they have an indoor play space for under 5s called The Bees Knees. More info here: https://www.bac.org.uk/beesknees
